The Principles of Design

Balance - This image is an example of symmetrical balance. Both sides of the photograph have equal amounts of items or in this particular case the image is cut straight down the dock.

Proximity/Unity - The Adidas sign shows unity by the closeness of the logos shapes. The equal distance shows the unity as well as the words fitting neatly below. They show a visual connection with the overall design.

Alignment - The cups in a sequence form a snowman which is an example of alignment. The layout makes it simple to follow and understand the meaning the image given put to explain.

Repetition / Consistency - This poster shows repetition. The logo has a pattern that is repeated 8 times in a sequence. There are no changes among the reoccurring picture and shows repetition of all parts of the image.

Contrast - The two wine glasses have a very distinct difference. One wine glass is almost entirely black and dark. The other is completely bright and white. They are opposites in one photo.

White / Negative Space - The man in the photograph is the focal point and every other spot in the image is white space. The negative space shows that there is a deeper meaning than more imagery can show.

Line - This poster is a good example of line because you can see all the tiny lines within the person. The many lines form an appealing and eye catching image

Shape - This photograph is a good representation of shape because it is a staircase formed of organic shapes. The image is seemingly complicated yet simple to understand.

Mass - The image below shows mass because the Eiffel tower appears smaller than the human hand when in reality the tower is significantly larger than a human being. Mass refers to the size in design and the way they altered or showed the illusion meaning this is an example of mass.

Texture - This picture is an example of texture because you can see the indentations in the rope. This type of texture is referred to as implied texture.

Colour - This photo is an example of colour because the balloons show hue, they're all bright colours. the balloons set a cheerful mood meant to initiate the happy emotion you get when celebrating birthdays or some other get together.

Type - The Nike logo is an example of text because its an example of written communication. It shows bold writing and plays a role in describing what company the product is for.

The third topic I've chosen to investigate is blogs.

This topic sparked a particular interest in me because I know absolutely nothing on the topic. Blogs have never been a strong point for me considering I've never viewed or created one before this assignment. I'd like to expand my knowledge on the topic now after beginning to create my own page.

Three forms of blogs found in everyday life are travel blogs to have an insight and reviews on what the airplane and resort or hotel you'll be staying at is going to be like. As well as food blogs to discover new ideas and comments to know if the recipe works out in the end. Blogs such as Pinterest help you find crafts and activities to try in spare time or when a creative task is in need of being done.

The purpose blogs serve are to show opinions and help people review and have a view of what others think of certain topics. The age this form of media targets is teens to early 30's. My visual representation is mainly

I chose this visual representation because I personally love to read and if I were to ever read a blog outside of class, a blog on books and general reading would be my first choice. It best represents my topic because it shows a blog with personal opinions and other peoples reviews on top of the initial writers. Exactly what my definition of a typical blog requires.

The second topic I chose to explore is sound recording.

I decided to chose this topic because music has always been a large interest and motivator for me. I know very little about the techniques and way the sounds and music fully come together in the end and I'd like to learn more about those things.

This type of media is found in many ways in the daily life. The first and foremost being songs on the radio and music played on mp3s and other musical devices. Sound recording is also used for advertisements and cartoon or non human actor movies and television shows.

Sound recording serves the purpose of portraying a voice without necessarily seeing the speaker. This media targets all audiences such as kids for the cartoon aspect, adults for radio broadcasts and teens for music.

I chose this visual representation because I like that it shows the sound coming from the device to show that sound recording is sound without a visual being behind it. I thought it represented my topic because radios are a main source of visual recording examples.

The topic I have chosen to explore is photography.

I choose this topic because it has always been a slight interest of mine to capture moments worth remembering and being able to keep those forever. I also picked photography because i'd like to learn new techniques and ways to enhance pictures.

I find this media in several media forms daily. certain apps i use such as Snapchat and Instagram are based around photographs. Game apps also use photographs as parts of the instructions and general play. Crafting and Scrap booking are also forms of this media in my daily life.

Photography is used to capture important moments in time and to be able to review a scene you'll no longer see in your daily life. Photography is mean to reach all people or all ages, genders and interests.

I chose this visual aid because I find it really represents photography in the best way possible. It's showing what the naked eye sees and it shows that they appreciated the scene enough to want to capture and keep it forever. A perfect example of what photography is meant for.
